FORT PELLY JOURNAL OF DAILY OCCURRENCES 1863
W.H. Long, editor
Members of the Regina Archaeological Society carefully transcribed this manuscript copy, including original errors, of a diary kept at a Hudson Bay Company post in southeastern Saskatchewan, and salvaged by local residents on the post's abandonment in 1912. Contents include descriptions of the daily routine as well as accounts of travel, of hazards such as prairie fires, and of living conditions on the post and among the post's clientele. Detailed ledger entries from October 1863 - February 1864 offer a close look at the actual trading carried on, and a view of the indebtedness structure of the HBC.
