HOME PAGE Welcome to the Home Page of the Regina Archaeological Society(RAS). We are a Regina area based group dedicated to providing our members with the opportunity to learn about and participate in archaeological discoveries underway in Saskatchewan and around the world. We also take an active role in explaining archaeological principles to the general public. By this means we hope to provide the general public with an awareness of the importance of archaeology and to assist in the preservation of archaeological sites. Please check here for an outline of our history and objectives. We would be pleased to have you as a member of our organization. No previous experience in archaeology is required. All that we require is your agreement with our objectives and a small membership fee. If you would like to join us please print the application form, complete it and mail to us. Or just attend one of our meetings and join us there. You will be welcome to participate in the activities we are planning. We publish a monthly newsletter. Please see the Catlinite Tabloid for all the archaeolgical news in Saskatchewan and around the world. Also please see the index to previous Catlinite Tabloids for a list of all the stories and articles that have been featured in the past. Each year we have a full range of activities planned. We will have a complete program of speakers for 2008 - 2009. Meetings are held in the board room of the Royal Saskatchewan Museum at 7:30 PM on the third Tuesday of each month except May - August. Regarding our summer program. Regretfully the summer is now well advanced. We have had a full slate of activities that has included -a
workshop "Digging Thru the Paperwork- Permits, SARRS and Reports" held in North Battleford at the Allan Sapp Gallery June 21 ( 9-4:30) & June 22 (9-3).
Our next regular meeting will be on Tuesday October 21, 2008 at: 7:30 P.M. In 2006, Kevin Whatley and Belinda Riehl- Fitzsimmons, of Stantec Consulting Ltd, had the opportunity to travel to southern California to assist with a large excavation project. This presentation will cover the sights they saw and some of the sites they dug. The Native American sites were located on the traditional lands of the Juaneno, Luiseno and Gabrielino. Food processing tools, cooking features, and hunting tools were discovered. And of course, any large field project is bound to produce some humorous and challenging events. Please check this page once in a while for the latest info on the winter program Please see RAS General Program for more details of the general program we carry out. |
